II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

This procurement was for a capital purchase to replace automated equipment within the Coagulation section of Haematology department at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. The department required three analysers of the same platform to ensure resilience for the service. Two analysers will function at our new hospital in Dumfries, due to open early December 2017, while the third will function at the Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer.

The Haematology laboratory was seeking innovative and integrated solutions to minimise user intervention at all stages whist maintaining quality and continuing to meet service demand. The laboratory expected any instruments supplied to require very little daily/weekly maintenance and that the instruments must be designed for non-qualified biomedical support workers to run. Suppliers were invited to respond to all of the process requirements by submitting a detailed proposal.

Solutions needed to demonstrate resilience and capacity for the future expansion of the laboratory's workload in terms of volume of requests and the flexibility to add to the range of tests that may be required by developments in clinical care.

The Authority had the requirement that the winning bidder will be the sole point of contact for all maintenance and breakdown calls for all of the equipment to be supplied in this tender.
