OCLC, is the only nonprofit provider of a hosted proxy server highly trusted for our government system. There are many proxy servers available some are even free through Open Source with questionable securities. There other companies which provide a proxy service for profit. The OCLC, Online Computer Library Center (formerly the Ohio College Library Center) has been a trusted library technology provider since its beginning in 1967. The OCLC is continually developing technology to provide further access to information while reducing information costs. The proxy service authenticates users to our subscription databases which require authorized access on our federal system. This provides current instructors and student access to the university library's e-content while off campus or utilizing their private routers on campus.
