NC State University’s Gregg Museum of Art and Design (hereafter referred to as University) seeks
proposals from qualified Art Handling companies (hereafter referred to as Contractor) to provide
relocation of approximately 38 Ceramics and 32 framed photographs currently at the Gregg Museum of
Art and Design in Raleigh, NC to the Artist’s Studio located in Ridgway, Colorado.
The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is a free, collecting and exhibiting museum with more than 35,000
objects. From 19th century Japanese color woodblock prints to antique North Carolina quilts, our objects
span cultures, disciplines and designs. In addition to having the largest collection of outsider art in North
Carolina, we collect, preserve and exhibit textiles, including garments, ceramics, paintings, photography,
sculpture, architectural drawings, archaeological artifacts, ethnographic materials and modern furniture.
The awarded Contractor will begin moving the collection as early as possible. The items are currently
available for pickup and as such all items shall be delivered to the Artist’s Studio in Colorado, ideally by
the end of August 2021. The awarded Contractor shall coordinate the move dates with the Project
Coordinator at the Gregg Museum and the artist.
The proposal response shall include a timeline demonstrating the proposing contractor’s ability to
complete the move as outlined above.
3.1 General
The collection is currently stored at the Gregg Museum in Raleigh, NC and needs to be returned to the
artist’s studio in Ridgway, Colorado.

3.2 Contents of the Move
The awarded Contractor shall move approximately 38 Ceramics and 32 framed photographs from the
Gregg Museum to the Artist’s Studio located in Ridgway, Colorado (see below picture).

3.3 Packing Materials
Some previous packing material was provided by the Artist. The University will pack the pieces
in the material supplied by the Artist, including light wrapping material and a bag for each object. This
includes some boxes for small and wall-mounted objects (see above picture).
The Contractor will evaluate the existing packing material and supplement it with additional
material to protect the pieces from damage in transit. At a minimum, foam must be provided to cushion
all pieces from the bottom and between pieces and their boxes or containers. Any boxes or bins provided
by the Contractor should be removed upon delivery to the Artist at his discretion.
3.4 Insurance
The Gregg Museum will maintain fine art insurance coverage on the artwork in shipment, but the shipper
must have insurance to cover its workers and equipment while handling the piece(s) and in transit.
3.5 Executing the Move
Artwork must be shipped in a secure vehicle, equipped with air ride (or equivalent) suspension,
appropriate for the transportation of artwork. The shipper assumes responsibility for loss or damage once
the artwork is in their custody.
The University’s Project Coordinator must be on site while the works are packed and loaded. There must
be a designated point of contact for the contractor. The person shall have the ability to communicate
clearly in English with the University’s Project Coordinator.
The awarded Contractor shall be normally engaged in handling artwork and providing the relocation of
museum collections similar in nature and scope to that required herein. References provided in your
response to this RFP shall demonstrate a minimum of three (3) years’ experience. Qualifications of
individuals proposed to complete the work should be included in the form of a detailed list showing
qualifications/experience of each. It is the proposing Contractor’s responsibility to provide valid reference
information and the University reserves the right to use reference check responses in its evaluation of

NOTES: The requirement to perform background checks on each individual employee (See attached
Contract Terms and Conditions – Item #31). The proposal response shall include a description of

Upon award, the selected contractor will be required to provide their Certificate of Insurance listing NC
State University as the certificate holder.
