The American Society of Nephrology fights to prevent, treat, and cure kidney diseases by educating health professionals and scientists, advancing research and innovation, communicating new knowledge, and advocating for the highest quality care for patients.

As part of this mission, the ASN Foundation is accepting applications for its William and Sandra Bennett Clinical Scholars Program.

The goal of the annual program is to produce the next generation of clinician educators by enabling applicants to improve their teaching skills through the acquisition of education tools and by supporting aspiring nephrology educators interested in conducting a project that advances all facets of nephrology education and teaching.

Two-year grants of $100,000 will be awarded in support of projects that explore any aspect of nephrology education. Projects may address aspects related to pre-doctoral or postdoctoral education. In addition, projects should be designed to generate new knowledge and should be expected to have an impact beyond the applicants institution. Examples of proposed projects can include but are not limited to curricular reform, innovations in education, new education methods, evaluation of new assessment tools for competency-based learning and assessment, professional development, and professionalism. The proposed project also must include appropriate metrics for evaluation, implementation, and dissemination.

To be eligible, applicants must hold an MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent degree; have completed the clinical portion of their training program by the time of the award's activation; hold a full-time faculty appointment and be within seven years of initial faculty appointment at the time of the award's activation; hold ASN membership at the time of the application; and work in North or Central America during the funding period.

ASN will begining accepting applications on October 11, 2017. All applications must be received no later than December 6, 2017.
