Construction of a New 238-Foot Privacy Fence and Gates

CONSTRUCTION OF 238 L.F. OF NEW PRIVACY FENCE QUOTE:
The City of Fairhope is requesting responses to provide labor, materials and equipment to
furnish, deliver and erect a 8-foot high, 238-foot long, wooden dog ear privacy fence with gates
at the City complex at 555 S. Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama. During Hurricane Sally,
September 16, 2020, the existing fence on the south side of the main building was destroyed.
The response should include a unit, lump sum price that covers the engineering, fabrication,
permitting, site work, demotion & disposal (existing fence) and erection of new fence with gates.
The unit, lump sum price should include all equipment, tools, labor, materials and all other
incidentals to deliver a “turnkey” fence with gates.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Work shall include, but not be limited to the following: design, permitting, fabrication, site &
foundation work, erection of 8-foot, dog ear, wooden privacy fence. All components shall be
new, unless noted otherwise. The design and construction of all aspects of the structure shall be
the responsibility of the bidder. The work shall include the demolition and disposal of existing
damaged fencing and structure.
Product/Work to be Quoted:
1. Construct approximately 238 linear feet of 8-foot (high) privacy fence to serve as a view
block and security separation from the south parking lot and the operations compound.
a. Specifications:
i. Fence Post (minimum) – SYP PT (2.5 CCA - 6 in. x 6 in. x 10 to 12 ft. –
Maximum Spacing 8-foot on center (Contractor shall design, determine
post spacing and construct based on exposure, location and other
environmental conditions) - Posts shall be set true to line and grade.
ii. Fence Stringer (minimum) – SYP PT 6 in. x 6 in. maximum span 7’-6”
(Contractor shall design, determine stringer size/horizontal spacing and
construct based on exposure, location and other environmental
conditions)
iii. Fence Picket - SYP 3/4 in. x 6 in. x 8 ft. Alta Premium (or equal) Treated
Dog-Ear Fence Picket
iv. Dimensional Lumber: No. 1, Pressure Treated, Southern Yellow Pine -
Materials shall be free from loose knots, cracks, and other imperfections.
v. Concrete – Cast in Place, 3000 PSI (minimum) – Set posts in 12-inch
(min) diameter concrete footings extending at least 36 - inches into
undisturbed natural ground or properly compacted fill.
vi. Hardware:
1. Nails – No nails shall be used for final mechanical connection.
Nails may be used for temporary shoring and setting of structure.
Any nails used must be compliant for use with treated wood.
2. Stringer shall be connected with 6-inch Strong-Drive® SDWH
TIMBER-HEX HDG Screw (Model SDWH27600G – or equal) two
per connection.
3. Pickets shall be connected with Deck-Drive™ DSV WOOD Screw
(Model DSVR212R or equal) – two per connection.
4. All hardware shall be either coated, hot dipped galvanized or
stainless steel.
vii. GATES:
1. Provide additional horizontal, vertical, and diagonal members to
ensure proper gate operation and for attachment of wood,
hardware and accessories. Consult manufacturer as necessary.
2. Accessibility: Gate stops, latches and locks shall be accessible
from either side of gate.
3. Types: Man Gates and Truck Gates
a. Man Gates – Existing 4-foot man gate shall be retained
and incorporated into new fence system. This is a chain
link with slats and magnetic key-code locking mechanism.
Power shall be reset to ne fence structure.
b. Truck Gates – Existing 18-foot truck gate shall be
eliminated and filled by new fence panel. Existing steel
gate frame and superstructure shall be retained by the
City.
b. Submittals:
i. Drawings: Indicate plan layout, grid, size and spacing of components,
accessories, fittings, anchorage, and post section.
ii. Data: Submit manufacturer’s installation instructions and procedures,
including details of fence installation.
c. Warranty:
i. Pressure Treated wood shall be warranted by the manufacturer for a
minimum of 10 years. Labor to replace defective fence shall be warranted
for 4 years.

INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
4.0 INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
Awarded Contractor, at its sole expense, shall obtain and maintain in full force the following insurance to
protect the Contractor and the City of Fairhope at limits and coverages specified herein. The City of
Fairhope will be listed as an additional insured under the Contractor’s General Liability insurance and
automobile liability insurance policies, and all other applicable policies and certificates of insurance. These
limits and coverages specified are the minimum to be maintained and are not intended to represent the
correct insurance needed to fully and adequately protect the awarded Bidder.
4.01 All insurance will be provided by insurers by admitted carriers in the State of Alabama, shall have a
minimum A.M. Best rating of A-VII and must be acceptable to the CITY. Self-insured plans and/or group
funds not having an A.M. Best rating must be submitted to the CITY for prior approval.
4.02 NO WORK IS TO BE PERFORMED UNTIL PROOF OF COMPLIANCE WITH THE INSURANCE
REQUIREMENTS HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY THE CITY.
