Description:

The Clean Air Act requires monitoring of wilderness air quality. Lichens have been used to evaluate air pollution baselines and trends in Region 6 for 30 years. We are looking for qualified contractors, who are experienced with the FIA lichen indicator protocol, to complete revisits to wilderness area lichen plots in Oregon and Washington. This includes execution of the community survey and a collection of target species tissue for elemental pollution analysis. Surveyors need to be approved by the COR to ensure that they have been properly trained on protocols before conducting data collection. Most plots can be accessed without backpacking. A list of plots and coordinates are provided. Highest priority wilderness areas (see below) must be surveyed unless, after consulting the COR, it is agreed there is a valid reason not to sample them (catastrophic wildfire, access issues). In the event that an area cannot be accessed due to road closures, trail closures, or wildfire, substitutes can be made. It is highly recommended that contractors plan ahead and check conditions with district offices and fire information resources before heading out. Procedure used to solicit and award contract: This notice is for the issuance of a blanket purchase agreement call request on BPA Region 6 Botanical Surveys.
