PAIHS is an agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services, DHHS and is responsible for providing health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives in the Phoenix, Arizona area. The provision of health services to members of federally recognized tribes grew out of the special government-to-government relationship between the federal government and American Indian tribes. IHS is the principal federal healthcare provider and health advocate for the American Indian and Alaska Native peoples of the United States. The goal is to ensure that comprehensive, culturally acceptable personal and public health services are available and accessible to American Indians and Alaska Native people. IHS currently provides health services to approximately 1.5 million people who belong to more than 557 federally recognized tribes across 34 states.
CRSU is a principal medical provider of comprehensive direct and high-priority contract inpatient, ambulatory care, preventive and community health, and environmental health services for members of the surrounding Native American population. IHS continues to experience difficulties in recruiting and retaining radiologists who can provide radiology services within IHS medical facilities. Given the current availability of teleradiology/telemedicine technology, IHS is pursuing contracts to provide these services within IHS facilities.
