This synopsis notice is posted in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 5.203(a).
The U.S. Department of Education (Department) anticipates release of a new Fiscal Year 2017 procurement titled " Impact Evaluation of Departmentalized Instruction in Elementary Schools" (hereafter referred to as "Departmentalization Study") on behalf of the Departments' Institute for Education Sciences (IES), National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance (NCEE). The overarching purpose of the Departmentalization Study procurement is to evaluate the impact of departmentalized instruction in elementary schools on student achievement. More specifically, the evaluation will use a random assignment design to examine the impact of switching from self-contained instruction (teachers teach all subjects to a fraction of students in a particular grade) to departmentalized instruction (teachers teach one subject to all students in a particular grade).

Added: Sep 27, 2017 9:00 pmThe purpose of this notice is to notify industry of the award made to Mathematica Policy Research. The period of performance will consist of an 18-month base period and two option periods (Option Period I has a duration from August 25, 2018 to August 25, 2020 and Option Period II has a duration from January 25, 2020 to September 25, 2021) that would result in a 48-month period contract in total. The total contract value is $6,922,150, if all options are exercised.
This is a contract to conduct an impact evaluation of departmentalized instruction in elementary schools. The evaluation will examine the impact of switching from self-contained classrooms (where teachers teach all subjects to the same group of students) to departmentalized instruction in grades 4 and 5.
