NON-MANDATORY PRE-BID MEETING/SITE INSPECTIONS – Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Location: Gull Road Water Tower

SCOPE OF WORK

The project involves the replacement of existing altitude valves and associated fittings at two water towers with new motor actuated butterfly valves and associated pipe and fittings as provided in these specifications, drawings and as detailed on the included Harold Beck and Sons, Inc, Quotes # RLG-23-151806 and RLG-23-151808. Alternative valves and/or actuators shall not be allowed.

Contractor is responsible for:

  1. All removals;
  2. Purchase and installation of the new actuated butterfly valves, supports, pipe and fittings, including disinfection of all pipe, fittings and valves immediately before installation;
  3. Disposing/recycling all removed valves, pipe, fittings, etc.;
  4. Providing all necessary equipment, labor and supplies to complete the project;
  5. Verifying the weight of existing valves prior to beginning the work and ensuring provided equipment is capable of safely lifting, transporting and loading existing valves, etc.;
  6. Verifying the accuracy of all measurements and ensuring that supplied and installed equipment is in compliance with project specifications and drawings and City of Kalamazoo Standard Specifications for Water Main and Service Installation 2021; and
  7. Cutsheets shall be provided to City for review and approved by the City prior to Contractor mobilization.

Upon completion of an acceptable pressure test, the City will perform bacteriological sampling of installed pipe and fittings (at no cost to the Contractor). Contractor is responsible for re-disinfecting and flushing until acceptable bacteriological sample results are obtained. City will perform all electrical work.

Keeping the water towers in service during construction is preferred. If this is not possible, the Contractor shall conduct their work in such a manner that each water tower is offline for no longer than one week each, including 72 hours for sampling and analysis. In no event, shall both water towers be offline at the same time.
