Summary:Existing King & Queen County High School waterworks system is over 50 years old and requires modernization to provide increased water capacity and reliability for school and adjacent chiller system. Design/Build contractor (Contractor) will provide and submit design drawings and submittal necessary for Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (ODW) approval. A new well is currently being drilled and new well data can be requested from the county administrator’s office. Once ODW approval is received, the Contractor will complete scope of work described below; which shall be completed by July 28, 2023.
The improvements to the water system shall include:
o Take 5,000 gallon hydropneumatic tank offline
o Create 5,000 gallon of unpressurized ground storage to increase effective storage and allow for trucked water if well is out of service.
Tank shall have
• level sensor rods
• Fire Department Connection
• Access hatch or viewing port on top of tank.
• Inlet & Outlet properly sized for well and school flows
Clean and disinfect interior of tank
Field paint exterior of tank
o Install duplex booster system capable of 50 gpm @ 55 psi.
o Install new 4”well pump end and associated motor capable of 40 gpm @ head to be determined (contact the county administrator’s office for drilling records)
o Install pipe and power line between well and existing pump house.
o Install new wall/ceiling mount heater.
o Clean and paint existing block building.
o Clear building drain and dig small swale as necessary.
o Install two (2) 119 gallon bladder tanks for pressurized storage
To ensure single point of contact, the Contractor shall have on staff professional engineers registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Furthermore the Contractor shall self perform all mechanical and electrical work as necessary to complete the required scope of work. Upon request contractor shall provide at least 5 examples of similarly scoped design/build projects performed in Virginia.
