Request for Proposals for Designer Selection for (Project 24-07) MnDOT Lake Burgen Safety Rest Area SP 2180-111 Building & Site Rehabilitation and Reconstruction

Location: I-94WB, mile marker 105, Douglas County (1 ½ miles east of TH29).
Brief description: Alexandria, MN Building and Site Rehabilitation and Reconstruction: Historic rest area building. MnDOT plans to rehabilitate the existing historic rest area building to include restrooms that meet current code and MnDOT requirements. This will get accomplished through a renovation and an addition. The Lake Burgen Rest area is considered part of the Interstate Highway System. This project is exempt from Section 106 requirement of the National Historic Preservation Act (1966). This takes into account the effects of this undertaking on the eligible property. Further, although the property was evaluated as eligible for inclusion in the National Register, it is not listed, therefore, is not subject to mandatory review and consultation under the Minnesota Historic Sites Act. Plans to rehabilitate the site to include ADA compliance, utility upgrades, restoration of original site features where feasible including planters and terrace, and new site features that are historically sympathetic including walking trails, landscaping, children's play area, pet exercise area, and picnic areas.
