Blatnik Cultural Monitoring of Early Pier Excavations

Brief description: MnDOT and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) are proposing to replace the I-535 John A. Blatnik Bridge over the St. Louis Bay between Duluth, MN, and Superior, WI. In preparation for the start of major bridge construction to begin in 2025, MnDOT will be completing early pier excavations and other related ground disturbance in Duluth and Superior during 2024. MnDOT requests proposals for cultural monitoring of early pier excavations and other ground disturbance prior to the start of major bridge construction. The purpose of the cultural monitoring is to quickly identify and immediately protect and preserve cultural resources eligible for the National Register of Historic Places or human remains that may be encountered during ground-disturbing construction activities.
