Hwy 8 Corridor Planning Study

Brief description: State requests proposals for a transportation corridor study for Highway (Hwy) 8 from Karmel Ave. in Chisago to St. Croix Scenic Byway/Minnesota (MN) 95 in Taylors Falls (approximately 14 miles). The study corridor is within Chisago County, City of Chisago, City of Lindstrom, Center City, City of Shafer, and Shafer and Franconia Townships. The study is needed to inform design and construction of future improvements to Hwy 8, and anticipated plans will look at vehicle safety alternatives, spot mobility improvements, multimodal needs in the corridor for people walking, rolling, bicycling along the corridor, and access management. The goal of this project is to broadly understand the needs and opportunities of all transportation users in the corridor; identify and develop a purpose and need for the corridor; develop and screen concepts that addresses the needs/opportunities; eliminate unreasonable alternatives; and produce a project development plan to be used by State to inform future projects in the study area.
