SCOPE OF WORK - ASBESTOS ABATEMENT
Project:
Cherish Center Water Heater Replacement
8800 McPherson.
Laredo, Texas 78041
Terracon Project No. 90237114
Asbestos abatement will be accomplished in one phase. Asbestos abatement is to be conducted
in select exterior spaces of the school building to accommodate proposed renovation activities.
I. Material, Quantity and Location
The work will consist of the removal of the following materials in the approximate quantities
listed at the site. All work will be conducted by properly licensed personnel in accordance with
applicable Federal, State and Municipal regulations. (Note: The material quantities listed
below are estimates only. The Contractor is responsible for verifying material
quantities and locations prior to submission of the price quote to the Owner. The
Contractor will perform work for the materials indicated, regardless of actual
quantities. Please see the attached drawings for approximate locations.)
Cherish Center:
Moisture Barrier Mastic The black moisture barrier mastic materials utilized behind the
exterior brick of the Mechanical Room was found to contain 5% Chrysotile asbestos.
The asbestos-containing moisture barrier mastic materials identified were noted to be in
a good condition and were assessed as being non-friable. Approximately 43 square feet
of these materials to be removed as part of the water heater removal project. The
actual amount of moisture barrier mastic to be removed will be determined by
the client and/or client representative. All removal areas shall be field verified and
marked by client and/or client representative prior to abatement activities to ensure the
correct locations are adequately addressed. (In areas adjacent to where moisture
barrier is removed, clean an additional 6” – 8” of moisture barrier to facilitate
build back.)
II. Work Practices
A. Respiratory Protection:
During the removal of the asbestos-containing moisture barrier materials, the
workers will be required to wear as a minimum, half-face respirators, equipped
with filter cartridges designed for asbestos-containing dusts, mists and vapors,

MSDS for any mastic removal solvent indicates the need. The abatement
Contractor shall ensure use of appropriate respiratory protection for the
work being performed and recognizes that these requirements are only
minimum acceptable standards.
B. Protective Clothing
During removal of the exterior moisture barrier mastic within regulated work
areas, double protective suits will be worn by the workers and boots and gloves
will be available to each worker as needed. The workers will remove the outer
suit within the regulated work area and will proceed directly to the
decontamination area. Each suit will be properly disposed of at the conclusion of
the work period. The workers performing the abatement will decontaminate
through a single-chambered wet decontamination system which will be
constructed in a remote location easily accessible by workers who will proceed to
the decontamination area after removing the outer suit within the regulated work
area.
C. Temporary Barriers/Facilities
In exterior locations where asbestos-containing moisture barrier materials are to
be removed, the work will be conducted in a Regulated Work Area demarcated
with appropriate barrier tape and the Contractor shall display all appropriate
OSHA and TDSHS signage. The asbestos-containing materials are intended to be
removed using wet manual removal techniques. The Workers shall be in proper
protective equipment and decontaminate through a single-chamber wet
decontamination unit erected in a central location accessible to the workers.
Critical barriers shall be placed on all window/door openings adjacent to the
work. The materials will be removed in an exterior regulated area with a single
layer of 6-mil polyethylene below each work area in a manner where any debris
resulting from removal operations shall be retained on the polyethylene
sheeting. The workers and all debris shall remain on the polyethylene drop cloth
throughout the work period.
Critical barriers consisting of a single layer of 6-mil poly will be installed on all
building openings where moisture barrier mastic materials are being removed. A
single layer of 6-mil polyethylene shall also be placed on the ground at the base
of the building below the work and extend at least four feet out from the building
below each work area. Any debris collecting on the drop cloths shall be kept in a
wet condition and shall be placed in an appropriate disposal bag as soon as
practical during the course of each work day. At the end of each day, all
polyethylene shall be rolled into itself and placed in appropriate disposal bags.

The CONTRACTOR will construct a single-chambered wet decontamination
system consisting of a space with overlapping door flaps and a running water
supply, constructed in a central location near the Regulated Work Area(s). The
Decontamination System shower chamber will consist of a hard enclosure with
drain and water supply fittings designed for the purpose rather than a
disposable/pop up chamber. The CONTRACTOR shall require all persons
without exception to exit through this decontamination unit at the end of each
work day, at any lunch break or when exiting the project site for any reason.
Changing Area: Provide an area that is physically and visually separated from
the building for the purpose of changing into protective clothing. Construct using

Construct room by providing a shower pan and 2 shower walls in a configuration
that will cause water running down walls to drip into pan. Install a freely
draining floor in the shower pan at an elevation that is at the top of pan.
Separate this chamber from the exterior with moveable overlapping flaps
fabricated of 6 mil polyethylene.
Provide shower head and controls. Provide temporary extensions of existing hot
and cold water and drainage, as necessary for a complete and operable
shower/hand washing station.
Provide a continuously adequate supply of soap and maintain the area in a
sanitary condition. Arrange so that water does not splash outside the chamber.
