QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
Full or partial Primer:
Question: The bidders asked if they needed to primer just the areas where they
are scrapping paint off or the entire building
My response: Full prime all surfaces. Ref spec section 09 91 13
Scraping and Prep work:
Question: Bidders want to know how much of the building needs to be scraped
and what district is asking for prep work prior to painting.
My response: All surfaces need to be properly prepped. This involves scraping
where paint is peeling, using a brush on siding or a hand sander on metal where
paint is damaged, using JoeMax as a cleaner or approved alternative, and
pressure washing all surfaces to ensure a clean surface before paint is
applied. Just pressure washing by itself will not be enough to properly clean/prep
the surfaces and mitigate future issues.
Roof parapet cap:
Question: The roof sheet metal cap, does it need to be painting all the way over
the top and the backside or just the visible face?
My response: Paint the entire roof cap and the upper roof surfaces. See
attached photos of all roof top areas.
Roof Gutters:
Questions: Some of the gutters are on the roof above and not visible from the
ground. Do they need to be painted?
My response: Paint all the gutters while painting the upper roof surfaces. See
attached photos of all roof top areas.
Storage:
Questions: Will there be storage on site or do we need to provide our own?
My response: Please provide storage as an alternate. We will look into what
spaces we could store on site to possibly save money.(Ie storage room, empty
classroom, gym, etc)
Lead Paint testing:
Questions: Has there been any testing done for lead paint since there is multiple
layers and it is obviously old?
My Response: Report is attached to the specs and is already part of the bid
documents.
Working Hours/Length of Project:
Question: What hours can we work on site?
My response: The question arose due to the small window for the project. My
response is 2 part:
o City of Salem Noise Ordinance hours: 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
o Extend the substantial completion date to 8/16 which gives a couple extra
weeks on the project. Please note that work has to be completed,
including punch, by the 8/16 date.
Flag pole:
Question: Does the district want to paint it?
My response: Yes, paint it.
