Invitation

The Buffalo Trace Covered Wooden Bridge Authority (BTCWBA) is requesting qualifications for consultation services in the rehabilitation of the historical Ringo’s Mill Covered Bridge in Fleming County, Kentucky.  Severe storms, flash flooding and age has caused the wooden bridge to sustain structural damage requiring rehabilitation of the bridge.  Interested parties should submit to BTCWBA at 201 Government Street, Suite 300, PO Box 460, Maysville, KY 41056.

Scope of Proposal

BTCWBA will enter into an agreement with a Professional Engineering firm, licensed in the state of Kentucky, or firms with specific experience in the knowledge and workings of wooden covered bridges, in working with BTCWBA and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to provide consulting services in performing the following:

  • Conduct an initial inspection of the Ringo’s Mill Covered Bridge and provide a report of any damages and structural insufficiencies in its current condition.
  • Provide technical recommendations and options to best rehabilitate the bridge
  • Provide cost estimates for the structure’s rehabilitation.
  • Meet with local officials as necessary.
  • Provide on-site technical assistance as the rehabilitation is on-going.

Criteria for Selection

Proposals must include the firm’s qualifications, project understanding, project approach, and resume of the project engineer or qualified woodwright, as well as a proposed cost for consultation services.

Experienced firms should have:

  • A minimum of 25 years of experience in the construction / rebuilding / rehabilitation of wooden covered bridges.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the rebuilding / renovation / rehabilitation of wooden, covered bridges, over 50 feet in length, and subject to vehicular loads.
  • Prior experience in projects of similar scale and complexity of structurally damaged wooden covered bridges.
  • Professional qualifications of individuals that will be assigned to the project.

Reserve Clause

BTCWBA reserves the right to reject any and all proposals that do not meet the required specifications.  Businesses performing consultation work for BTCWBA shall comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.  The proposals shall be ranked with the top ranking firms being asked to submit a fee proposal for services.
