The Town of Nantucket, through its Town Administration, invites qualified responders to submit proposals for Nutrient Loading and Groundwater Mapping of Nantucket Harbor Watershed Project.

Nantucket Harbor is a major public recreational resource on Nantucket and shows signs of nutrient impairment. Previous extensive research in conjunction with the Massachusetts Estuaries Program (MEP), has shown evaluated nitrogen loading in the Harbor. To date there has been no focused assessment of the sources of nutrients leading to potential eutrophication. Potential sources of nutrients include overland flow, groundwater, atmospheric deposition, and internal releases from sediment. This project will focus on groundwater as it is influenced by both wastewater disposal, synthetic fertilizers and storm water infiltration, which ultimately enters the Harbor.
