Construction to improve both the upper and lower day-use areas in Jimsmith Provincial Park will
require concurrent archaeological work. Both of the day-use areas overlap with precontact site DiPx-
31, and therefore all ground disturbing activity has to abide by the conditions of a Section 12.2
Heritage Inspection Permit and aSection 12.4 Alteration Permit, which have been applied for and are
being managed by the assigned Project Archaeologist (Pathways Archaeological Consulting Ltd.
(Pathways)). Please note that two to three days of pre-construction archaeological excavation will be
required under Heritage Legislation, and therefore coordination with Pathways will be required to
schedule this component ahead of time and to prevent any delay to the onset of construction
activity. During construction within and immediately adjacent to the bounds of site DiPx-31, the
Project Archaeologist along with representatives of local First Nations will be on site to monitor
construction and direct sediment removal and piling to facilitate salvage operations. The
archaeological crew will attempt to minimize obstruction to construction activity when and where
possible, but minor delays should be anticipated. It is estimated that the total time required for
Archilogicial monitoring on the beach for recontouring will be 5- 10 hour working days. The
archaeological crew will actively work with the contractor, and participate in daily tailgate/planning
meetings to identify localities where mechanical activity can proceed and priority areas that will
require time to fulfill mitigating work. If a delay(s) to construction does arise within site DiPx-31, the
contractor is able to continue work on various project components that have already been mitigated
for or are beyond the bounds of the archaeological site.
